The Sunday, November 2, 2014 Historical Society of Old Abington, Inc. meeting will honor the donors and volunteers whose efforts have contributed to the preservation of the Society’s rare collection of The Liberator, an anti-slavery newspaper published by William Lloyd Garrison in Boston from 1831-1865. The Society received a collection of approximately 1,200 issues as a gift from a private donor in 1964.
The guest speaker for the program will be author, professor, and editor Donald Yacovone from Medford. Dr. Yacovone is a Lifetime Associate at the Du Bois Institute of the
Hutchins Center for African and African American Research, Harvard University where
in 2013 he received the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal. He’s also a past Senior Associate
Editor of Publications for the Massachusetts Historical Society, editor of the Black
Abolitionist Papers, and has a lengthy list of publications to his credit. He’ll be speaking
